Become a Royal & Select Master
Continue Your Search for More Light In Masonry
Hail Companions, we invite you to join our ranks. Rather than waiting for an invitation from another Illustrious Companion, we encourage you to proactively reach out to any Royal and Select Master. We will be delighted to assist you by sharing Masonic knowledge and enlightenment.
The Council of Royal and Select Masters constitutes the center body within the York Rite of Freemasonry. To join, a Master Mason must first become a member of a Chapter of Royal Arch Masons and undergo the four degrees conferred by that organization. Subsequently, he may pursue additional knowledge in Freemasonry by joining a Council.
The Cryptic Rite, also known as the Purple House, derives its name from the setting of the Royal Master and Select Master degrees in the underground crypt beneath King Solomon’s Temple. The term “cryptic” signifies hidden, thus its use in describing these degrees. Councils of Royal and Select Master confer three degrees, namely, Royal Master, Select Master and Super Excellent Master. When a Companion has received the Degree of Select Master, he is said to have passed the circle of perfection in Ancient Craft Masonry.
The Cryptic Degrees teaches about Solomon’s Temple and aims to deepen members’ understanding of their role in the fraternity. It emphasizes themes like morality, justice, charity, leadership, service, loyalty, brotherhood, and faith, promoting spiritual growth and development.
Consequently, the degrees conferred by the Council are integral to Ancient Craft Masonry. They serve to complete or clarify the symbolism inherent in the Royal Arch Degree.
